Seems like an okay qualification to put on people to collect welfare, but then what sort of program would you create to get people who are now proven to be addicted off drugs or alcohol? Seems like that would cost more, either way money wasted eh?

Already in legislation, cant remember where i saw this

Do a google search for this, its already being presented in Tennesee i think. Only issue is that it is being presented as a requirment for Unemployment benifits. The theory is that to collect unemployment you must be “Willing and available to accept employment”. With the way most companys are now days most employers require pre-employment screens to get a job and if you are not drug free you are essentially “Not willing and available to accept employment”.

i believe this type of legislation is doomed to fail however because pre-employment drug testing is not mandatory for all employers to do, and second of all most people have paid into unemployment and are deserving of the benifits they recieve.

Welare is a whole different arena that should be explored however, good idea.

Yeah, I picked up this idea last year from an email that was circulating.  I remember hearing something in the news that a certain state was working on a bill to do just that.  Thanks for nailing down the details!
